For as long as man has walked on the land, the mer have swam in the waters. Though they may share a few humanoid traits these ancient beings live in a far different world then the land dwellers above. For countless centuries the mer have been the guardians of all life in the sea. Some believe their ancestors were humans who returned to the sea, to evolve and adapt in ways that resemble the creatures they now live among. Others believe they began as these sea creatures and evolved more human like traits and intellect to help protect their schools and pods from the threat of the land dwellers up above.

Regardless of how they came to be the mer are an elusive and savage race that have formed thousands of clans across the vast ocean. Long ago these clans would go to battle over territory, hunting grounds, or simply to settle old rivalries. To end this constant fighting the strongest and most dominant clans formed seven kingdoms to negotiate who would take what migration routs and what seasons the different clans would occupy the various hunting grounds. Though the seven leading clans have managed to maintain an uneasy peace among the mer, old rivalries run as deep as the ocean and the tides are always changing...
